Iron Man Slot

Iron Man is another Marvel Comics Universe character who, since making his comic book debut in 1963, has made his way into cinemas and Playtech’s action-filled world of online slots. This is a highly animated, dynamic, comic book hero game with energetic bonus rounds and plenty of electric guitar audio for excitement and drama. The Missile Attack bonus is without question the game’s highlight.

Storyline and Characters

The Iron Man Slot takes its imagery from the Iron Man movie released in 2008, particularly the design of Iron Man’s metallic external skeleton suit. Iron Man is the alter ego of Tony Stark, a rich and successful engineer and owner of Stark Industries, a company that produces arms and military equipment. Stark is kidnapped by terrorists who want him to create a weapon of mass destruction. During his ordeal, he suffers a severe injury to his chest. Instead of building the deadly weapon, Stark designs and constructs a super strong power suit which saves his life and allows him to escape. He later goes on to equip the power suit with weapons, and uses it to fight crime and save the world as Iron Man.

Symbols

The animated special symbols in Iron Man make parts of this game more movie-like than reel-spinning.

Two symbols feature Iron Man himself and both act as expanding wilds when stacked. In the first symbol Iron Man is pictured blasting through the air, powered by his jet boots. When triggered in a line Iron Man twists and turns, moving at speed with a city skyline in view below him. The second symbol features Iron Man getting ready to shoot a laser beam from his hand. When animated he pulls back and releases the laser beam with an almighty punch. If either symbol stacks up on reels 2, 3 or 4, Iron Man becomes an expanding wild and the action stretches out to fill the entire reel. You’ll see an explosion and orange smoke; when it clears Iron Man is racing vertically through the clouds. In a nice touch the slot pays out on mixed pay lines including both types of Iron Man symbol as well as “of a kind” lines containing just one.

The other special symbols include:

• Scatter – The Iron Man logo symbol. When animated the logo turns from front to back to front again with a flash of light in the background and a cool electric guitar sequence. The animation is slightly different when the scatters activate the Missile Attack bonus; more about that later.
• Tony Stark – The hero appears without his power suit. The green background behind him glows pink when the animation is activated.
• Missiles and rockets – these light up when animated
• Reinforced briefcase with the Stark Industries logo – lights up when animated

The rest of the symbols are high-value playing cards from 9 to King, each represented by one number or letter in red and gold. These pulsate when triggered.

Wagers and jackpots

Iron Man is a generous 5-reel, 25 payline slot. The wager value range goes from 0.01 to 5 in the currency you play in when playing in real-money mode. The highest regular jackpot is 5,000 coins. You can set the Autoplay feature to program up to 99 spins in advance.

Being a Marvel slot, Iron Man is part of the four-level Marvel Mystery Progressive Jackpot network. The progressive is accessible only for real money. Other Ways to Win

Three or more scatter symbols trigger the Missile Attack bonus. The Iron Man logo on the scatter burns up and the word Bonus appears. Suddenly, a fighter jet with Iron Man in hot pursuit bursts onto the screen. They are both racing across a stretch of water towards a city, presumably New York. The fighter jet fires a rake of missiles towards the sky scrapers on the shore, and your job is to make Iron Man shoot them out the sky. For each one you shoot down, you win a prize. There are free games, cash prizes, expanding wilds, and multipliers up for grabs. If you win free spins, you’ll notice that the reels’ background colors change from predominantly red and black to yellow while the spins play out.

Music, audio and graphics

Playtech have done a good job with the music and sound on this game. All the animated symbols are accompanied by a burst of dramatic music, and the rocky guitar sequence during the Missile Attack bonus definitely has a “go get ‘em” feel. With all the explosions and whizzing around, the graphics are still clear, crisp and colorful.

The Last Word…

In terms of tension and excitement Iron Man is one of the best games Playtech has to offer. There’s a lot going on but the game remains easy to follow and enjoy (compare with the X-Men slot, which is a little confusing). We give it 8 out of 10.
