Pirates and buried treasure make frequent appearances in the online slot world. Captain’s Treasure is an early contribution to this “genre” from expert online gaming developer Playtech. This is a fun, swash buckling adventure slot.
Setting the scene
You’re conquering the high seas in search of gold and riches in this online slot game. It may be the Captain’s Treasure you’re after, but you’re very much at the helm of your own ship: spin the reels, consult your trusty maps, and chase down those chests of glittering golden coins.
Symbols
The Captain himself, complete with pirate’s hat, unkempt black beard and a red ribbon tied around his head, is the Wild symbol. You’ll get a thumbs up from him when he’s triggered in a payline, but that’s as far as the animation really goes on this game. The scatter symbol is chest full of gold coins.
Other symbols include:
- An anchor
- A ship’s steering wheel
- Two crossed swords
- A map
- High value playing cards from 9 to Ace
Wagers and jackpots
This is a 5 reel and somewhat meager 9 payline slot, but when you consider that it actually has 39 different winning combinations, it seems a lot more generous. You can place any bet from 0.01 in whatever currency you’re playing in (this matters only if you’re playing for real cash) up to 5. The maximum jackpot is 10,000 coins. You’ll win that if you manage to land five ship’s wheels on the reels after just one spin.
Other Ways to Win
This game is similar to Desert Treasure in that there’s a disappointing absence of free spins, and furthermore there’s not even a nice little bonus round. It has to be said that both these games are becoming a little long in the tooth now (they were released in 2006 and best online casino 2009 respectively). Playtech’s trade mark free games round, triggered by three scatter symbols, is a later development that features in more contemporary slots like The Hulk and Fantastic Four.
Captain’s Treasure is, however, hooked up to the Dollar Ball progressive jackpot network. You can opt in or opt out of this bingo-style side game by clicking on the Dollar Ball icon at the top right corner of the reels. The real-money prizes here are hefty and don’t require much effort to win (you just have to be lucky!). You pick five numbers, and as you spin the reels the Dollar Ball game selects another five at random. If any of your numbers match you win a prize. If all five do, the entire progressive jackpot is yours. Needless to say the Dollar Ball game is accessible only when you’re playing in real money mode.
Music, audio and graphics
As we already mentioned, this is an older game, so the graphics and audio aren’t as flashy and all-singing, all-dancing as those of some of Playtech’s newer creations. If you’re the type of player who plays slots to enjoy slots (not necessarily to watch a movie incorporated into your slot game) you’ll appreciate this straightforward reel spinner. The background features tall ships at sail, the sun setting on the waters, and shiny gold coins spilling out of a treasure chest. When you hit a payline you’ll hear the gold coins tinkling as if you were running your hands through them. There’s a also a short whistling noise each time you spin, which might be an attempt at capturing a pirate’s merry whistle as he sails in a search of booty.
The Last Word…
Sometimes less is more. This is one of the many very enjoyable pirate-themed slots on the web. Definitely worth a few spins: 7 out of 10.
